MGM Grand Detroit Lions Tunnel Club
In addition to operating a National Football League Franchise, the Detroit Lions operate 2 major facilities. Ford Field, the game time home of the Lions in downtown Detroit is a 1,000,00 SF facility including 300,000 SF of commercial real estate and the Lion’s administrative offices. Allen Park, the suburban day to day home of the Lion’s houses football operations, indoor and outdoor practice facilities, in addition to locker, training, and weight rooms. The Lions recognize that these facilities are key assets for their internal team to live and work and a vital component to providing an excellent fan experience. Alliance Architecture’s relationship with the Lions started in 2012 when these facilities were approximately 10 years of age. Our first major assignments included owner’s representation to assemble and manage a team of professionals that were assigned to study the how the Lions can continue to provide a superior fan experience for the next decade while studying the future possibilities for place, technology, and energy efficiencies against the needs of a 10 year old facility. This effort resulted in a list of various project possibilities. One of the more immediately tangible assignments opening for the 2015 season included a 120 person VIP experience adjacent to the team locker rooms, which Alliance designed in partnership with the team and the MGM Grand Detroit. Additional projects in the stadium included a 7,000 SF healthy dining experience serving the office population and game time users, various office spaces for the Lions, Techstars and others. Similar efforts were completed at the Allen Park facility including a premier team dining facility. Our work for the Lions, like many of our assignments, has resulted in a relationship where we feel both client and consultant are true partners and advocates to establish better ways to work, live, and play.
