Mike D’s BBQ – 36 Hours in Durham

Mike D’s BBQ was featured in the New York Times magazine, 36 Hours in Durham.  An award-winning line of signature BBQ sauces and all-purpose dry rubs. The owner, Michael “Mike D” De Los Santos, discovered his love for BBQ at a young age on a family trip to North Carolina at a small restaurant. He eventually worked on a food truck where BBQ was served, and he became the preferred cook of customers because of his talent and creativity. His appreciation and curiosity outlasted his career in the kitchen and fueled his journey in search of the perfect BBQ products.

In September of 2020, Michael opened Mike D’s BBQ Supply & General Store in historical east Durham, a community identified as an integral part of the city’s past and future, at 306 South Driver Street. In 2023, he moved to Garland Campus in East Durham, opening doors to his first BBQ restaurant.

Alliance Architecture had the pleasure of being involved in redeveloping the Garland Campus which houses Mike D’s current space along with Congress and upcoming Proximity Brewing.
