Burt’s Bees the iconic brand shifted its headquarters to the Hill Building at the American Tobacco Campus. Alliance had previously designed the renovation of the building from a collapsed shell into Motricity’s HQ in 2002. To prepare the building for Burts’ Bees lab space, branding, and a store in store were incorporated into the structure. Key themes included historic preservation, use of natural materials, emphasis on honoring and expressing the brand, and designing within a budget. The original structure of the building was heavy timber, and the presence of towering wood columns and skylights gives the project a forest quality.
